What the heck is the difference between a web site and a web-based application? Well, actually the main difference is where they are situated. Generally you’ll find the web site on-line, open to the public and handling public information. Many web sites include web-based applications to serve up data. A web-based application, on the other hand, is meant more for internal use. It may be content resource management software that will help you keep track of your business inventory. Or else it might be calendar software or a company-wide address book. The sky is the limit here and since web technology has seriously matured in the last years, web-based applications now perform almost as quickly as your standard desktop applications without the overhead of specialized programming or extra user interfaces.
